Some friends of Collegium Musicum Of London
City: London
St James Garlickhythe, Garlick Hill, London EC4V 2AF

The yearning and regret at parting, the optimism of new beginnings and the religious promise of an afterlife are common themes in Western classical music. In its spring concert, Collegium Musicum of London Chamber Choir explores these sensibilities – alongside the retrospective poignancy of a composer’s last works.

Choral music by a diverse collection of composers makes up an eclectic programme of memorable musical farewells, incuding works by Gibbons, Weelkes, Byrd and Purcell, alongside Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell, the composer’s touching tribute to his pupils who were lost or wounded in the First World War.

Leading soprano Augusta Hebbert (pictured) will be accompanied on piano by CML’s musical director and conductor Greg Morris in an arrangement of Richard Strauss’s exquisite, valedictory Four Last Songs, completed near the end of the composer’s life.

Join the choir in its home – Sir Christopher Wren’s elegant church of St James Garlickhythe in the City of London – for what promises to be a moving and ultimately uplifting evening of choral and vocal favourites.
