Grand Entrance Hall, Brunel Museum, London SE16 4LF
Collegium Musicum of London returns to the Brunel Museum’s spectacular Grand Entrance Hall, on the banks of the Thames, for a programme of choral music and readings on a nautical theme.
Former CML member Caroline Crampton’s book, The Way to the Sea – about the Thames estuary – garnered great reviews when it was published in 2020, the Sunday Times reviewer observing that the author ‘writes beautifully of the area’s charms. Her first-hand knowledge of navigating the river gives the book a descriptive power that brings the whole area superbly to life.’ CML is delighted to welcome Adjoa Andoh, star of the Netflix hit Bridgerton, to read extracts from the book. Alongside the readings, CML will perform a selection of ‘songs of the waves’, including works by Byrd, Purcell, Mozart and Barber – ending with a scintillating arrangement for choir of Elgar’s exquisite song cycle Sea Pictures. And there’ll be a few well-known seafaring favourites to round off the evening, including a quirky take on 'Drunken Sailor' and 'My Heart Will Go On' from the much-loved film Titanic. Tickets £17 / £15 concessions, available on the door, in advance on 07812 599340 or online at collegiumchoir.com |
