quartetotau@quartetotau.com.br 55 11 9978-6792 TAU QUARTET Formed by Breno Chaves, Daniel Murray, Fábio Bartoloni and José Henrique de Campos, the Tau Quartet was created with the goal of broadening chamber music repertoire for guitars. Tau has dedicated most of its work to Latin-American Music, especially Brazilian music. This is done in transcriptions, arrangements and work premieres. Composers such as Villa-Lobos, Brouwer, Piazzola, Assad, Bellinati, Gnattali, Nepomuceno, Ginastera, Tom Jobim, Garoto are represented in the repertoire. It has already performed world premieres of guitar quartet works by Brazilian composers Giacomo Bartoloni, Carmo Bartoloni and Paulo de Tarso Salles, and by Argentinian composer Eduardo Escalante, who has dedicated his “Concert for four guitars and chamber orchestra” to the quartet. In 2007 Tau Quartet released “Brazilian”, a CD totally devoted to the repertoire of Brazilian Concert Music, doing concerts in many cities around Brazil. This CD contains adaptations of string quartets by Nepomuceno and Gnattali. The quartet played in the SESC sponsored tribute concerts to Aníbal Augusto Sardinha “Garoto” (1915-1955) and Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) in São Paulo. In 2008 the group toured Bolivia, sponsored by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, where they played in La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz de la Sierra. In those concerts Tau Quartet played only Brazilian popular and classical music. BRENO CHAVES breno@quartetotau.com.br Breno Chaves is a classic-style guitarist performing in recitals and concerts with orchestra and master classes in Brazil and abroad. He has played in the main capital cities of his home country, namely (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília Goiânia and Belém), in Latin America (Montevideo, Buenos Aires, La Paz, Cochabamba, Caracas and Havana) and the United States (New York, Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Texas and Los Angeles). Breno Chaves is one of the founding fathers of Quarteto Quaternaglia, in which he played until 1999. He has taken part in major events such as “Mostra de Violão” at MASP, SESC International Guitar Festival, Villa Lobos Festival and the Pará International Music Festival. Internationally, he was awarded at the IX Havana Guitar Contest and Festival, the Montevideo Guitar Festival. In the US, he performed at the Guitarists of de World, Friends of Music, The American Guitar Society Concerts Series and Forth Worth Classical Guitar Society. Back home, he was a finalist at the Prêmio Sharp de Música (1996) and was awarded with the Prêmio Carlos Gomes from the São Paulo State Secretary of Culture with the Antique CD . He has recorded four cds, among which Forrobodó, released in Europe through record label ECM featuring compositions by Egberto Gismonti and Paulo Bellinati dedicated to the group. Nowadays, Breno Chaves is part of the TAU quartet of guitars with whom he recorded the Brasileiro CD. DANIEL MURRAY daniel@quartetotau.com.br Guitar player that has won a prize in the "Concour International de Trédez- Locquemeau" in Bretagne - France at the age of 15. Considered one of the most talented guitar players of his generation, he has been developing an international career as soloist player, arranger and composer as well as he takes part into projects with musicians such as: Paulo Bellinati, Israel de Almeida, Toninho Carrasqueira, Rogério Wolf, Heloísa Petri, Andrea Kaiser, Joaquim de Abreu, Paulo Porto Alegre, Edelton Gloeden and others. He has attended to the "17éme Stage Internacional de Guitare" ("Fondation Kruger", Mas de la Coume, Mosset, France) with Alberto Ponce as master. As part of "Trio Opus 12" (guitar trio), with Paulo Porto Alegre and Edelton Gloeden, he has recorded the famous "Suíte Retratos" from the maestro Radamés Gnatalli, in an arrangement dedicated to the trio by Radamés himself. Daniel has just released his first CD also, as soloist: "...universos sonoros para violão e tape...”, where he shows his contemporary musical facet in a project with inedited songs dedicated to his avant garde initiative. Meanwhile, he plays with the TAU guitar quartet formed by Breno Chaves, Fabio Bartoloni and José Henrique Campos, developinng arranjements for this formacion, and also, his brand new partnership with Chico Saraiva, a recognized sophisticated brazilian composer, with whom he has “Duo Saraiva Murray”, dedicated to Saraiva's songs in a guitar language. FÁBIO BARTOLONI fabio@quartetotau.com.br Fábio Bartoloni has a Master’s Degree in Music in the Arts Institute at the São Paulo State University (UNESP). He’s studied with Giacomo Bartoloni, Henrique Pinto and Gisela Nogueira. He has been in Master-Classes with Manuel Barrueco, Leo Brouwer, David Russel, Abel Carlevaro, Eduardo Fernandez, Eduardo Isaac and Fábio Zanon. He’s constantly playing Concerts in Brazil and other countries. He’s performed world premieres of solo guitar works by Achille Picchi and Paulo de Tarso Salles (Brazilian composers) and the recordings of these works have been played on Cultura Radio Station. In chamber music, his other important activities are the Duo Bartoloni, with guitarist Giacomo Bartoloni and duos with pianist Daniela Lucatelle and sopranos Sônia Goussinsky and Taís Bandeira. In 2003 he recorded the CD “5 Brazilian composers by 2 guitarists” and has given concerts and recorded in France, with Frederic Bernard and Giacomo Bartoloni. The repertoire consists of nineteenth century music and was released in recitals in Europe and Brazil. He currently teaches Classical Guitar at the Music College of Osasco, at the Villa-Lobos Conservatory and at the Music School of the State of São Paulo. He’s also the Artistic Director of Musicalis National Guitar Contest. JOSÉ HENRIQUE DE CAMPOS zehenrique@quartetotau.com.br José Henrique de Campos has a Master’s Degree in Music at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), under the supervision of Professor Giacomo Bartoloni (2008) and has a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of São Paulo (USP) under the supervision of Professor Edelton Gloeden (2001). He has been in many Festivals, Seminars and Guitar Encounters in Brazil. In 1999 he received a scholarship to take some classes with Roger Eon at the École de Musique du Trégor of Lannion, France, where he played in many cities like Rennes, Nantes, Lannion, Paimpol, Pont l'Abée, St. Michel-en-Grève, SaintQuai Perros and Prat. In 2004 he created Votorantim’s First National Guitar Festival, festival with important teachers and guitarists such as Fabio Zanon, Edelton Gloeden, Marcelo Fernandes, Gilson Antunes and Tau Quartet. He’s a member of the Tau Guitar Quartet, an important chamber music ensemble in Brazil. Tau Quartet toured Bolivia in 2008, where they played in La Paz and Cochabamba. Recently the group recorded the CD “Tau Quartet – Brazilian”, with an unpublished transcription of Quartet 3 by Alberto Nepomuceno, and works by Radamés Gnattali, Paulo de Tarso Salles, Carmo and Giacomo Bartoloni. He used to teach at the Piedade Conservatory and currently gives private classes, and has an important work in group guitar classes, following the world tendency in this kind of teaching. He’s the coordinator of the group guitar department at Guri Project in the State of São Paulo. |
