BlogThe 5,000 ha irrigation project from desalination of seawater in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region is about to take shape.  The interdepartmental steering board of the irrigation project held its first meeting. The concession contract signing is expected in early 2017 according to the Ministry of Agriculture. This project entails the construction of a desalination plant in the region of Dakhla with a production capacity of 100,000 m3 of desalinated water per day and realizing a supply and a water distribution network for irrigation for estimated budget of 1.3 billion dirhams. The study of the irrigation project is divided into two phases. The first will focus on the feasibility study and the definition of strategic opportunities for the implementation of the project partnership, and the second highlights the assistance for the administration in the identification of the private partner for the financing, design, construction and the operation, maintenance and management of desalination and irrigation infrastructure estimated for a period of 30 years. The period for the construction of infrastructure will take more than three years and the commissioning of the desalination unit and the irrigation network is intended for 2020. Mohamed Dekkak |
