Richard Ozanne (Artist) Extended Biography:
Richard Ozanne artist has been active as a visual artist for many years. He grew up in a culturally oriented family surrounded by classical music and art. Mr Ozanne has traveled the world with his paintings, packed with sketchbooks and materials to research cultures and ideas that span the globe. Richard Ozanne started his training in the class of Revington Arthur and references the private input he had of the period which included the culture at Chautauqua Institution where he met numerous artists, writers, and philosophers who provided input into the process of his work. Revington Arthur was a student of the famed surrealist Arshile Gorky, providing a myriad of immersions into the philosophies and ideas that spanned generations of American Realists, Expressionists, Surrealists, and Abstract Artists. Richard Ozanne received his BFA from the University of Arizona Tucson (1982) where he studied both art and music during his degree. In 1983 young Ozanne was provided with a scholarship to study at the Art Students League of New York with Robert Beverly Hale, David A Leffel, Thomas Fogarty Jr., and others at the ASL, immersed in figurative form and dynamic of light play, coloristic contrasts, formal training as an artist. In 1984 Richard Joined the Graduate School at Columbia University City of New York towards his MFA studying with Leon Goldin. Richard Ozannes' travel over the periods provided many moments of reflection in the Museums and Galleries of Europe both West and East. In 1978 he traveled to Weimar, GDR/DDR as a source of work to view the work of Vassily Kandinsky and others and was invited to study art in Leipzig. He also visited the People's Republic of China in 1983 and 1985 producing many paintings in plein air and introduced to Wo Zouren, then Chairman of the Central Academy who invited him to return to China for Graduate Study. In 1983 Richard Studied in Cannes France in the Atalier of French Artist Gustav Nebel and later studio with Fred Macatanz (Alaskan Artist) learning little-known techniques. He also studied in Hawaii by Willson Stamper, a student of Kimon Nicholedes "author of The Natural Way to Draw' Richard Ozanne was preparing himself as a teacher of art rather than a commercial artist, but he had called for his work in New York and Europe, New Zealand and other countries to exhibit. Ozanne earned his MFA Master of Fine Art from Arizona State University (1992) Richard Ozannes' work debuted in New York in a month-long 3-person Show at Ariel Gallery, Broome in New York (1989) and later provided exhibitions at Abney Gallery on Broadway in Solo (One person) and group exhibitions 1993-94, receiving a five-year contract. Times being what they were, the artist relocated to Europe (1995) and the Cultural City of Prague Czech Republic where he exhibited and taught as a professor at Charles University, as well as advancing his education in many areas of research. Mr Ozannes's Residence in the Czech Republic lasted 7 years and included Prague and Cesky Krumlov as well as tours of his work with local galleries. In 2004 Richard Ozanne had residence in Venaria Reale-Torino Italy where in a matter less than a month he was included in exhibits in Torino, Milan, Gruliasco, Asti, and many cities in Piemonte, followed by awards for his prolific work. He subsidized his life by teaching English and Private Research, Art, and Piano during this period. He taught as an adjunct at the Politecnico Torino and other academies, and schools, such as an elite private school in MonCalliere Italy where he gave piano lessons. Richard Ozanne was offered the extremely gracious possibility of citizenship in Italy returning home in 2006 to resume his career in the United States. He taught in private schools and Cultural Development programs in Texas and Iowa, exhibiting rather infrequently, but becoming an advocate of the arts through cultural programs in the quickly changing culture post-2000, Richard Ozanne's work has been seen around the world.
